Harold "Hal" Fearon (1931-2023)

We deeply mourn the passing of Harold "Hal" Fearon. As founder and editor of the Journal from 1965-1974, Hal was instrumental in its evolution from the Journal of Purchasing to the Journal of Purchasing and Materials Management. This change was initiated long before the term "supply chain management" became mainstream, demonstrates Hal's visionary thinking that paved the way for the discipline. During his tenure as editor, 230 articles were published in the Journal, contributing significantly to the discipline's knowledge base. He was succeeded as editor by Paul Farrell.

In addition to his editorial contributions, Hal's impactful tenure at Arizona State University included chairing departments and establishing the Center for Advanced Purchasing Studies (CAPS). Outside of academia, he co-founded Rio Salado Bank in Tempe.

The world of supply chain management is indebted to Hal's pioneering spirit, and he will be deeply missed.
